Senior Manager of Meetings and Education

The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) is the nation's oldest and largest interdisciplinary organization devoted to research, education, and practice in the field of aging. The primary purpose of the Society - and its 5,200+ members - is to advance the study of aging and disseminate information among scientists, decision makers, and the general public. GSA includes two special units: The Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE) and the National Academy on an Aging Society (Academy). AGHE is a unique network of institutions dedicated to advancing scholarship in gerontology. The Academy, a non-partisan public policy institute, actively conducts and compiles research on issues related to population aging and provides information to the public, the press, policymakers, and the academic community.

 

Job Description

The Senior Manager of Meetings and Education is responsible for managing The Gerontological Society of America's Annual Scientific Meeting. The position also manages the Association of Gerontology in Higher Education's Annual Meeting. Duties include but are not limited to:

 

- Manages Meetings Department Staff; to include the Manager of Exhibits and Advertisement and Meetings and Education Coordinator; responsible for establishing staff priorities, training, and evaluations
- Explore and recommend innovative practices and concepts in meetings and conference education that increase attendance and creates a unique and satisfying experience for attendees

- Manage the planning and construction of the GSA Annual Scientific Meeting and AGHE Annual Meeting including, Develop and maintain budgets for GSA and AGHE Annual Meetings, Direct Program Committee activities in conjunction with the preparation of the Annual Meeting
- Handle all hotel, meeting space requirements
- Manage and oversee registration process and manage hotel room block
- Coordinate all logistics for the Annual Scientific Meeting

- Oversee the set-up and execution of the on-line meeting management program
- Manage on-site logistics of the Annual Meeting
- Participate in the development of the Annual Meeting publications and marketing pieces

- Oversee the continuing education program, including development and coordination of applications,
forms, certificates and any other follow-ups required

- Arrange for GSA and AGHE travel and hotel arrangements for all GSA meetings

- Provide staff support to duties as assigned at the annual meeting

- Perform other duties as necessary

 

Travel Requirement
This position requires domestic travel of up to 25% of work time.

 

Qualifications

- Three or more years in planning/managing conferences with 2,000+ attendees.

- Positive, professional, and self-motivated personality with effective oral and written communication skills required.

- Experience within an association meeting department is a plus.

- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

-Strong skills in process management, database management, customer service and project management with ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Strong ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

- Experience developing and managing budgets
- Experience creating and carrying out timelines
- Online abstract submission and management experience  highly desired

- Self-directed and have a desire to achieve results and build strong relationships with our clients and team members.

 

Education

Bachelor's degree and/or CMP preferred

GSA compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. Fantastic benefits package including employer funded health insurance, a business casual office environment in a downtown, metro accessible location and 5% employer contribution to employee retirement account (403b) after successful completion of 90 days of employment.
