Education Director - CSDA

EDUCATION PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION

The Education Director serves as the lead staff to the Education Committee and is responsible for providing the overall education team leadership. Position requires the development and implementation of an annual education plan to be approved by the Executive Director and the CSDA Education Committee.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage the development and delivery of all education programs, workshops, Special Districts Legislative Days and conferences for California Special Districts Association.
  • Research, implement and evaluate new education programs, distance learning, and other options to bring education to members.
  • Supervision of the Education Assistant and temporary staff as needed.
  • Identify, cultivate and support faculty and speakers for all programs
  • Develop and implement strategy to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of all education programs and report the results in a timely manner
  • Oversee logistics and ensure the meeting planning process for all training and education programs is effective and efficient
  • Directly accountable for the education budgets (managing expenses and revenues) and meeting the established goals
  • Develop and implement a needs assessment strategy to ensure a proactive approach to offering education to special districts

 

SPONSORSHIPS/ADVERTISING

The Education Director is responsible for recruiting and working with companies that provide services or products to special districts (Business Affiliates) to maximize sponsorship and in part, advertising membership revenues to the association. Position will work with the Publications Director to design and promote a sponsor/exhibitor marketing program that will offer a full range of marketing opportunities for vendors/suppliers.

 

EDUCATION MARKETING & PROMOTION

The Education Director will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive annual education marketing plan for CSDA. These plans will be developed in conjunction with the Executive Director and the Membership Director and will be tied directly to the education budget. This position will serve as the lead in coordinating and writing the text for all education brochures and related marketing collateral.

 

Additionally, this position will work to identify new markets and integrate membership and publications promotional strategies into all education programs.

 

CSDA SPECIAL DISTRICT LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

The Education Director serves as the lead staff on the Leadership Academy. Responsibilities include developing a strong speaker pool; supporting speakers; curriculum & presentation material development, enhancement and review; coordinating education opportunities with local chapters; overall marketing of the Leadership Academy; serving as liaison to the Special District Leadership Foundation on the Leadership Academy; and acting as the ambassador for the Leadership Academy to make it the core governance training for all special district officials.

 

CSDA ANNUAL CONFERENCE

The Education Director serves as lead staff for the CSDA Annual Conference. The Education Director will plan all phases of the annual conference in accordance to the CSDA Strategic Plan, board of directors and Executive Director.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

  • Detailed management of the overall program
  • Developing and implementing the conference marketing plan
  • Fundraising and obtaining sponsorships
  • Managing communications through direct mail, internet and CSDA publications
  • Recruitment of exhibitors and oversight of the exhibit hall
  • Developing and managing a conference web presence; including online registration and post conference follow up
  • Selecting, managing and training onsite staff and volunteers
  • Negotiation and management of supplier contracts

 

 

Requirements

  • Experience in the management and development of education programs, curriculum and conferences.
  • Understanding and interest in professional development and training programs, awareness of adult learning trends and e-learning opportunities.
  • Hands-on experience in developing conferences and trade shows
  • Knowledge and experience in program and budget development.
  • Experience in developing and implementing marketing strategies and plans for education programs
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in meeting planning
  • Knowledge of computers and database essential.
  • Exceptional written (correspondence, spelling, grammar) and verbal communications skills.
  • Must be team player with a positive attitude and excellent telephone skills.
  • Independent worker who is willing to take on a variety of projects.
  • Experience in program evaluation and needs assessment strategies
  • Strong project management and organizational skills a must.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • BA/BS in communications, education, marketing, or related field from an accredited university required. Non-profit marketing, program development and customer service experience will be a plus.
  • Designated as a Certified Meeting Planner (CMP).
  • Actively involved in job-alike meeting profession/industry groups

 

Compensation

  • Salary range: $59,223 - $76,990/annually
  • Reimbursement for travel and business-related expenses, as per CSDA policy.
  • Paid Time Off (PTO), paid holidays and other benefits, as described in the CSDA Personnel Guidelines.
  • Health, vision, dental and life benefits, following qualification (employee and family).
  • Flexible Benefit Plan offered, including a medical flexible spending account (FSA).
  • Participation in CalPERS, 2% at 60, 100% employer paid.
