Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA)
Director of Communications
Position location: Lilburn, Georgia (15 minutes outside of Atlanta)

REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer
SCOPE: Manage the communications department and provide communications support to the WBCA, including but not limited to writing, editing, design, social media, marketing, website updates and public relations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communications
1. Write for and contribute to all of the WBCA's communications materials, including Coaching Women's Basketball magazine, Fast Break e-newsletter, WBCA.org, various emails, etc.
2. Edit all communications materials, including Coaching Women's Basketball magazine, Fast Break e-newsletter, WBCA.org updates, WBCA Convention Program, emails, etc.
3. Work with outside contributors who submit content for various WBCA publications, edit contributed content and ensure deadlines are met.
4. Monitor needs of WBCA membership and continually evaluate WBCA publications and communications offerings to better service the membership.
5. Manage marketing requests and needs as they relate to the communications department.
6. Assist the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and the Manager of Multimedia with communications and updates related to the WBCA Pink Zone and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
7. Provide articles and/or information to various publications and WBCA affiliates, including but not limited to USA Basketball, Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, CACC, AAU, CoSIDA, USA TODAY, and other sources as determined by the CEO.
Public Relations
1. Maintain relationships with national media, local media and sports information directors at all levels. Assist in the updating of all media and SID distribution lists.
2. Serve as the WBCA's main public relations contact, and work with WBCA Chief Executive Officer on any public relations issues in women's basketball.
3. Oversee the implementation of the WBCA National Convention public relations plan.
4. Write, edit and distribute 60+ press releases and media alerts yearly, with assistance of the Manager of Communications, to publicize various WBCA events, awards and programs.
5. Manage and produce all communications-related materials for the WBCA National Convention, held each year in conjunction with the NCAA Women's Final Four. These materials include media kits, scripts and protocols, press releases, signage, PSA's, etc.
6. Coordinate all WBCA media and communications efforts for the NCAA Women's Final Four, the WBCA High School All-America Game, the State Farm Coaches' All-America Team announcement, WBCA banquets, and all other WBCA events.
7. Pitch WBCA stories of interest to national and local media outlets. Work with sports information directors in scheduling radio and television interviews for the WBCA CEO when she travels throughout the season.
8. Assist in setting up media interviews and fulfilling quote requests for the WBCA CEO.
9. Serve as a women's basketball news resource for the WBCA CEO keeping her informed on important news revolving around the sport.
10. Serve as an information source for outside constituencies, including media, associations, businesses and individuals.
11. Compose letters, memos, reports, etc. Transcribe and type materials. Respond via phone and email to inquiries from internal and external sources on a variety of media/public relations subjects within a reasonable time frame.
Design & Multimedia
1. Assist and oversee Manager of Multimedia with creative material, including graphics, photography and design.
2. Assist Manager of Multimedia with formatting press releases, emails and newsletters using HTML coding.
3. Edit and sign off on all design materials.
4. Assist the Manager of Communications in the development of educational and fundamental videos for WBCA.org.
Website & Social Media
1. Oversee and work with the Manager of Communications as it relates to the yearly social media plan, which includes Twitter and Facebook updates as well as staying knowledgeable on the latest trends in social media.
2. Oversee and work with the Manager of Communications on the "Shootaround with Beth & Debbie" national podcast. Assist with promotion, ideation and website maintenance.
3. Monitor all WBCA.org updates, testing and quality control. Manage quarterly staff updating process to ensure accuracy of all content on the site.
4. Work with website and database developers on WBCA.org works in progress. Continually evaluate new ways to keep the WBCA in the forefront as it relates to the WBCA website.
Other:
1. Oversee the responsibilities of two staff members and one intern in the Communications department.
2. Manage and administer the USA TODAY ESPN Division III Top 25 Coaches' Poll.
3. Work with WBCA senior management and directors regarding strategic, marketing and future planning for the Association.
4. Manage the Communications budget, and assist with the management of other budgets within the department.
5. Other duties deemed necessary by Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer.
Requirements and Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree with a minimum three years professional experience in the field of communications
• Prior work history in managing content for print, video, and online media outlets
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent computer skills including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, web page design, social networking knowledge, and desk top publishing.
• Experience in public/media relations and in association management
• Excellent ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, including senior management, staff, media and most importantly, members of the WBCA
• Highly professional, well-organized with outstanding customer service skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and superior attention to detail
• Proven organizational skills; ability to work with concurrent deadlines; ability to analyze complex situations and develop systems to effectively manage them. Ability to complete assignments in timely fashion with minimal supervision. Strong project management skills and ability to work independently often with conflicting priorities and deadlines.
